ABOUT LUIS SEGURA:
Dubbed Chicago's "Badboy of New Wave & 80's" and a 37 year veteran of the Chicago club and radio markets, Luis continues to lead party-go-ers to the next level of music. Since the mid 80's, he has pioneered electronic dance music through clubs, radio, and raves. As an on-air personality in Chicago, Luis introduced listeners to the progressive sounds of Dance music over the airwaves as one of the original members of 90.5FM WCYC's “Dominating 6 DJ Team”. He also hosted his own Alternative show "L.A. Style", and he quickly became the authority of the progressive sound in Chicago in the 90's. Luis continued his radio career as the host of a "The Wednesday Morning Rush" on Chicago's Underground 88.1FM WCRX, which featured Chicago and Global House music as part of the regular on-air rotation..... "Embracing DJ culture at an early age wasn't hard...playing great music just felt right"....
As most Chicago DJs of the era, Luis was also turned on to the Underground House scene at the young age of 13....Although House was his preferred choice of music at the time, his curiosity for a more progressive Dance sound began to take shape as a result of being introduced to European music and culture at an early age. He began to identify that his craft of mixing records with a dance beat can also be used to present progressive sounds of European Synth-Pop bands in his performances. His trademark style of mixing challenged his audience. Luis' sets delivered a "different sound" to the dance floor. Extended blends between 12' inch versions of Depeche Mode, New Order, Erasure, Book of Love, and Razormaid Remixes of European bands were new to the Chicago audience. " I can't remember a time when I said - I just don't care how it sounds - I've always challenged myself to be a perfectionist when it came to mixing music"....This new selection of music was well known in European nightclubs in those days, but had not been properly introduced in the states until the mid 80's. "I remember playing Erasure and DM for the first time at a neighborhood house party in 1987 - Boy did I get strange looks from the crowd!".....Committed to his new sound, Luis quickly gained the attention of the Dance industry and music lovers, as one of the pioneers of the "New Wave sound" in Chicago in the late 80’s....
His commitment and passion for new music make him one of the busiest DJs in Chicago today. Luis was the first "Alternative" DJ to sell mix tapes at local record stores, while balancing a weekly residency on 90.5 WCYC's "Friday Night Hot Mix Show" as one of the Dominating 6 DJ Team.....Luis also became a vital member of the "Undergroud Sex Vigilantes". His hard work quickly paid off as he was named "DJ of the Year" in 1989 by his peers at the Chicago Dance Music Awards....Luis became an iconic symbol of the "Chicago New Wave scene". His live mix sets during the 80's, included Synth- Pop Alternative, House, and German Techno.... In addition to his radio sets, Luis also held weekly residencies performing at underground clubs that featured progressive dance music. "Some of my favorite sets took place at such clubs as Medusas, The New Scene, Alcatrazz, and Taurus....I miss those spots....Back then - It was all about the music - nothing more!"...Devoted "new wavers" continue to embrace his sets today. Talent combined with a professional stage presence, continue making him a true crowd-pleaser.
